Whosoever
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”
Romans 10:13
Back in the Garden of Eden, when man disobeyed God’s command, disobedience separated man from God. This was the beginning of sin and death. “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12).
When man sinned, his spirit was changed. Before, he met with God in the cool of the day. After man sinned, he fled from God because he now loved evil more than righteousness. “19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved” (John 3:19–20). Man was no longer perfect as when God created him, no longer innocent. He died spiritually. Man no longer possessed the same godlike character.
Because God is perfect and holy, He cannot have sinful man in His presence. There was now a separation between God and man. God cast man from His presence and out of the beautiful garden He had created for man. “23. Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24. So he drove out the man …” (Genesis 3:23–24a).
However, God gave us hope. “21. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:21-22). God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came to restore that broken fellowship. However, one must believe in Jesus. Everyone has heard the following verses. “16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:16-17). By God’s grace, all people have the opportunity to be saved. Jesus allowed people the opportunity to have that relationship with God to be restored.
How is this done? “9. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).
Who has opportunity to choose salvation? “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Also, see why the promise of Jesus was so important. “11. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:11–14). That is why God promised Jesus – to “redeem us from all iniquity.” God then makes Christians a special people (peculiar people) for Himself.
That relationship has been restored.
Because of the restored relationship, Christians can now fellowship with God. How? When we read God’s Word, we can hear from God. When we pray, we are talking to God. Christians need to have those lines of communication open. God then teaches us, for He wants us to please Him in all that we do.
Have you recognized your need for Jesus, understanding that only He can reconcile us to God?
